Time to go home. Along the walking path, there are statues of great Australian tennis players from the past.
home_201601310823156e8.jpg

There are normally a great number of people outside in front of the big screen, but because of the weather, there were only a few sitting this year.
home11.jpg

Right next to the Australian Open Tennis site, there is the MCG where AFL and cricket games are played. Usually, you can walk around the MCG to go to the tennis, but since there was a cricket game on that night, we had to make a detour.
home3.jpg

To save your walk, there was a free shuttle tram for the ticket holders to the car park. Waiting for a tram to come.
home4.jpg

Still so much energy left! "I am not sleepy at all!"
home5.jpg

City night view over the bridge (with the MCG on the right).
home6.jpg

Just before getting into the car, we spot a possum in the tree. Kawaii
home7.jpg

To my pleasant surprise, Raonic won the third set and they were in the middle of the fourth set when we got home.

The fourth set went to Murray and the match entered the full 5th set with Murray conquering the final set over Raonic who regretfully was injured during the match....
home8.jpg

Congratulations to both heros for the great tennis.

Nice, man-to-man hand shake over the net after the game

The Grand Final is on between Djokovic and Murray tonight, just like last year.

Woooh-!

We were just on time for the game as we walked into the Rod Laver Arena
game0.jpg

The players came out to the court. How tall and slender Raonic looks! (and, indeed, he is 196cm tall!)
game.jpg

My son, busy finishing an icecream without paying much attention to them...
game2.jpg

Warming up. What long legs Raonic has! Handsome daddy-long-legs (gaganbo)
game3.jpg

How are they doing? Let me check it out... Very useful binoculars :-)
game4.jpg

What an exciting game! Raonic won the first set - wow!!!
game5.jpg

To be honest, I had never heard of Raonic before until this year, but he IS so good! So confident, so stable and so accurate that it makes him look like a preprogrammed elite robot - !

More and more people at the seats. Security during the interval was very strict in the court.
game6.jpg

What a great atmosphere. The audience was loving the game (and so were we!)!
game7.jpg

Especially, these 4 A-N-D-Y men I wonder if they were featured on the TV screen. They were so entertaining (that lots of people were taking photos of them :-) ),
game8.jpg

Murray won the second set. What an exciting match! And who is staying up so late well after his bed time?!
game9.jpg

Though we would have loved to stay and watch, the (bed) time was against us (him...), so we left the Arena in the middle of the third set.
game10.jpg

We had great fun! Arrivederci to the Arena till next year

Our annual event of January - the Australian Open
tennis_20160131054757232.jpg

It is supposed be summer in Australia, but it was a cold day, so we were all dressed like in the winter - !

Before going into the Rod Laver Arena, dinner time (My husband was laughing as I was talking more about what to eat for dinner more than about the semi final match...)

I love the antipasti plate here. We also shared a pizza, and chips (of course!).
tennis2_201601310547586a5.jpg

Kanpai!
tennis3_201601310548008e6.jpg

As it was a semifinal match, there were lots of people, despite the cold weather.
teannis4.jpg

Our chips boy - he'd never say no to the chips!
tennis5_201601310548015cf.jpg

Let me try the salami. Mmmm.... yummy
tennis6.jpg

It's been 8 years since we have been coming to the Australian Open. We are not too much into the sport, but we LOVE this!

Bill Granger again I baked oats choc chip cookies this morning.
cookies_20160129091239a40.jpg

As an experiment, I substituted sugar with hoeny today. Honey from Mornington Honey farm
cookies2_20160129091241e4e.jpg

Let's see how it tastes. Yummy! It is less processed that it's so much thicker and richer than commerial ones,
cookies3_201601290912429ed.jpg

This recipe requires only little flour but plenty of pressed oats!
cookies4_201601290912435f1.jpg

As I ran out of the choc chips at the moment, I chopped the choc melts instead.
cookies5_20160129091245186.jpg

The ingredients are now ready.
cookies6_2016012909130028c.jpg

I always shuffle the ingredients in order accordingly to the cooking method. In this case, oil and honey go first, and then eggs and vanila essence together, followed by flours/baking soda/salt, and finally oats and chocolates.
cookies7_2016012909130234c.jpg

Now ready to mix!

My son, who did not have school today, joined me in the kitchen (as always)
cookies8_2016012909130340f.jpg

Done. As long as you measure the ingredients right, baking is so simple (well, most of the time).
cookies9_20160129091305ee5.jpg

Oats choc cookies freshly out of the oven.
cookies10_2016012909130689b.jpg

My husband will come home early today. He'll surely enjoy them after lunch

Having a break from the lovely OZ, we had "Curious George, First Day of School" at the bed time tonight
george_20160128192330647.jpg

As I read Japanese books to him during the day, it's normally English ones, read by papa, at night (and I'm also there to listen).
george2_20160128192333bb2.jpg

Indeed, George WAS into lots of mischief....
george4_20160128192334a49.jpg

but, of course, everything was alright at the end :-)

After practicing on the regular piano, he started playing on our antique one.
antique_20160128184900db1.jpg

I love the sound of antique pianos - so mellow, so sweet and so church-y
antique2_20160128184902c42.jpg

"That was fun"
antique3_20160128184903c8c.jpg

"Well done, Jr.!"
gggandpa.jpg

My son's got his name from this great, great grandfather of his to whom the antique piano belonged 100 years ago. How lovely to feel his spirit still on the piano

He's loving it!

There was a cello lesson yesterday.

This time I drove instead of taking a tram, and it was sooo much easier! I could even bring his stool.

He (and I!) learnt lots of bow techniques. (For his level), you always pull the bow to start the notes, not push. I see.
cello_20160128182537028.jpg

The bow played on the strings must be tilted in the angle. I see.
cello3_201601281825389af.jpg

The bow should go through the middle of the.... what do you call this space/part???, without touching your leg. I see.
cello4_20160128182539c20.jpg

It is rather exciting to be getting acquainted with an instrument which you hadn't had any knowledge before. I (and he) now know several notes on the A and D strings and can actually play a tune! Actually, it is fascinating.

It's in addition to the piano, but he diligently practices the cello every day.
cello5_2016012818254195e.jpg

He can't press the strings with the fingers hard enough yet, but when I helped pushing his fingers down with mine and we heard the beautiful sound, it's so nice to see him so pleased
cello6_20160128182541073.jpg

I can clearly see that it is true that when you know the piano first, any second instrument will be much easier and you'd learn so much quicker (until to the certain level).

Though we first had a second thought that he might be still too young, we are now confidently happy that we started his cello at his age. He's loving it, and we are loving that he's loving it!

Relaxing in the garden after school, having a frozen yakult - his favorite
yakult.jpg

Ummmm... yummy!
yakult2.jpg

Nice to see the dogs relaxed, too :-)
yakult3.jpg

We harvested more tomatoes today
yakult4.jpg

And then, the switch was turned on.

Here comes, 'sussuss' dance (version 1)
yakult5.jpg

And another 'sussuss' (version 2)
yakult6.jpg

And, even more 'sussuss' (version 3)!

Pick-up time. It's always exciting to see him after his spending the day away from me

Oh, he's pretending that he doesn't see me :-)
pickup_20160128173755b8e.jpg

But as soon as he came to me, he was so ready to show....
pickup2_201601281737575a5.jpg

the activities he did during the day. "This is me in the school uniform!" Very smart
pickup3-1.jpg

He was very proud to carry the big (huge!) school bag by himself, just like a big boy
pickup4-1.jpg

Well done on the first day!
pickup5.jpg

Keep having lots of fun at school
